What is Maca?
Maca is often called the “Peruvian ginseng.” In fact, it is said that the indigenous people of Peru traditionally consumed maca as a nourishing food for royalty and warriors.
Maca contains a rich variety of nutrients, including minerals, alkaloids, essential amino acids, vitamins, dietary fiber, protein, and antioxidants.
It is especially high in minerals: its zinc content is about 11 times higher than that of chives, its calcium content is about 25 times higher than that of garlic, and its iron content is about 10 times higher than that of deodeok (Korean bellflower root).
Maca is cultivated in the Andes region of Peru and is the root of a plant in the Brassicaceae (mustard) family that grows naturally at altitudes above 3,000 meters.
Despite the harsh natural environment—strong ultraviolet rays, powerful winds, large temperature differences between day and night, and poor soil—maca has an exceptional ability to survive.
Thanks to this strong vitality, it has been cultivated by the Inca people for approximately 3,600 years.

What is Cudrania tricuspidata (Korean Cudrania / Silkworm Thorn)?
The bark is brown or grayish-brown and is shallowly split vertically, with well-developed lenticels on the branches.
There are thick and sharp thorns, which are modified short branches, growing from the leaf axils.
The leaves grow alternately and are ovate in shape with smooth margins, and they are sometimes divided into two or three lobes.
Both sides of the leaves are covered with fine hairs, and the petioles are also hairy.
It is a dioecious plant, and clusters of pale yellow flowers bloom in the leaf axils from May to June.
The male flower clusters are round and covered with soft hairs.
Each male flower has 3 to 5 perianth segments and 4 stamens.
The female flower clusters are oval-shaped, and each female flower has two styles that are split into thread-like forms.
The fruit is a multiple fruit that is firm and green at first, then becomes slightly soft and ripens to a red color from September to October.
When the leaves are cut, a white sap is released, and the fruit has a sweet taste.

What is Doraji (Balloon Flower Root, Platycodon grandiflorum)?

What is Rehmannia Root (Sookjihwang, Prepared Rehmannia Root)?

What is Hasuo (He Shou Wu, Polygonum multiflorum)?
Hasuo (何首烏) originates from a Chinese record titled Hasuojeon (何首烏傳) dating back to the Tang Dynasty.
The name Su-o (首烏) comes from the word “head” (首), referring to the belief that this herb can turn hair black again.

What is Yagwanmun (Lespedeza cuneata)?
Yagwanmun, also known as Bisuri, has the scientific name Lespedeza cuneata.

What is Balsam Pear (Bitter Melon)?
